Last week was Science Week and we did lots of fun things throughout.
We built boats, made them float in a large container in class and tested them to see how much weight they could. We had a big competition between all the students to see who’s boat was the most buoyant. The winning boat held 2.5kg! It was really fun and we got to know what floated and what didn’t. Our second experiment was to create volcanoes. We did this by getting paper cups and painting them like a volcano and then we put warm water, vinegar, baking soda, washing up liquid and red food dye and put it all together and it made a massive explosion. Overall, we had a great time experimenting and had lots of fun doing it. Written by Charlie Wright and Claire Keane. For the month of November, every Tuesday we will be doing an hour of activities after school with Ms .McSweeney and Mr .Angland. During this activity there were six stations in which there was a different thing to do at each station. In each station we do twenty seconds of the activity and a ten second break and we would do this four times before moving to the next station. We did the six stations twice around but the second time was a different set of activities. The activities ranged from ladder runs, skipping and running to dancing. It was very enjoyable and we can't wait for next week.
By Paddy O'Connor and Charlie Keane :) This week the fifth and sixth class students went on a wellbeing walk for Mental Health Week. We walked down the Well Road and then up Cummer. We did this mindfulness walk to be mindful of our surroundings. We used our senses to see, hear, taste, smell and feel everything on our walk. We saw many plants, the well and birds. We heard birds chirping, water flowing and leaves rustling. We tasted blackberries and the water from the well. We smelled freshly cut grass and slurry. We felt the bushes, moss and the different terrains of ground on our feet. The weather was lovely there was a blue sky and the sun was shining. We enjoyed it very much and would love to do it again.
Written by Maisie Collins and Charlie Keane. This week 5th and 6th class have created projects on their chosen Historical Building.
Some of the students researched International buildings such as The Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Twin Towers, A Norman Castle and Big Ben. Other students researched more local buildings such as Purt Castle, Muckross House, Camp Lodge, Newgrange and the GPO (General Post Office). Some students built 3D structures, others took photographs and some drew very artistic pictures. They all wrote lovely facts about their chosen Historical Building. Have a look at the photos here. |
